The emotional starting point for creating 'By a Thread' was a series of unexpected accidents in the hungarian circus scene. It strongly affected Sophie and made her question how dangerous her passion actually is. What is the level of risk in each performance? When do accidents happen? What is that state of mind when you make a mistake? The act plays out the story in reverse, starting with the fall.
